There are three levels of the mind, the Conscious Mind (CM), Subconscious or Preconscious Mind (SCM) , and the Unconscious Mind (UM).

The first level, CM, is the conscious state of mind which takes in immediate information from all our senses, analyzes the information and then we make decisions in regards to the information.  “It tends to focus on what is happening now, but can easily be refocused on the past and our imagined future, or into a complete fantasy situation.” (Calvin D. Banyan, MA, DNGH, OB)

The next level of consciousness, the SCM.  Kain Ramsay states that “Every experience you’ve ever had, every thought, every impression lives in the subconscious mind and influences our patterns of thought and behavior far more than we realize.”

The last level of consciousness, the UCM, is where all automatic work is done, breathing, heart rate, blinking etc. It is also where automatic feelings are processed and where chemicals are released in response to the feelings, such as adrenaline for fear, saliva for food.  We store many experiences in the UCM that lead to beliefs, fears and insecurities that drive our behaviors even though we are unable to recall the memory associated.
